• We don’t know what we don’t know

Go ahead say it – I promise it will make you feel better.

That mantra keeps us honest at Brains On Fire, and it fuels our fire for
listening. In today’s world of “experts,” it’s frightening that somebody can
come right in the door and tell a client what they should be doing.

David Armano touched on this in a recent post. As practitioners in the
social media space we’re in danger of losing credibility due to a few bad
apples. To riff off David, a good snake oil sales man can talk – nothing wrong
with talking, but when you’re doing all that talking… it shuts down listening.

The truth in “we don’t know what we don’t know” is what are you going to do
about it. Instead of doing all the talking, let your customer and their
customers do all the talking – it’s a far more important job to sit back and
listen and gain some insight on what you don’t know.
