• It’s Friday. Anybody out there?

Here is another photo from my friend libby williams. I love the way kids play. Those of us that work need to play more. Just thought it was a nice reminder for a summertime Friday.

What a great week. Geno and I traveled to one of the happiest places on the planet and met with our friends at Voce. Definitely same tribe kind of folks. (They were gracious enough to put us up in their condo across the street from their offices. As you can imagine, Geno’s a seriously fun roommate.)

Everyone here is working hard and putting in lots of hours on some really cool projects.

We made the official Brains on Fire book announcement on the blog and response was amazing. We will gather all the responses and make some decisions about who is getting book gallys with the next two weeks. Sound like a plan? I wish I had twenty books for everyone who took the time to answer. Or tweet about it.

    Thank you very, very much.

Also, Eric Whitlock has been finalizing the cover art. Which I failed to tell you is a compilation of 17 artists doodles. Sort of a visual representation of a movement. Wiley was kind enough to let us design our own cover since we are very particular about that sort of thing.

AND it’s raining baby boys around here. Megan (or Mama Byrd as we call her now) is expecting a baby boy. So is Justin Gammon. Well, his wife is actually having the baby. And Logan Metcalfe and his wife just welcomed a baby boy into the world last week. I love having babies around the office. So that is going to be big fun.

Okay. So want to play chat pack this week? Come on. This one is easy.

    This week’s question:

If you had to change your first name, what would you choose as your new name?

Hmmm. I have always liked my name. It’s one that could be male or female which is always fun. I get a lot of Dear Mr. Phillips email. When I was little I begged my family to change my name to Hope. Go figure. But right now, if I had to change it. I’d go with Frank. OR some set of initials like RL. RL Phillips. Kind of sounds like a race car driver.

Happy Friday. Make it count! And do something unexpected this weekend. Step out of your comfort zone. I have been doing that a lot lately. And it’s life changing.

    OXOXOX,
    Robbin

    I’d go with Casey.

It was my original last name before I was adopted, and it smacks of my Irish descent. The catch is it’s currently my middle name, so by changing my first name to Casey, I’ll have to make another change. My original middle name was “Ryan,” a name that’s since been dropped, so I’d probably bring that back.

    So the final product:
    Casey Ryan Rackley

    Robbin,

We have a police lieutenant whose first name is Tracey. Despite the fact that he is ALL man (with a gun!) each year the Fraternal Order of Polcie sends him a huge pile of return address labels bearing the name “MISS Tracey Lastname.”

As for me? I don’t know what I would choose for a first name, but as a girl who grew up with the last name “Butz,” I can tell you one of the happiest days of my lfie was the day I became Amy Taylor (thanks to the power invested in the American legal system, not marriage.) It’s amazing what you can accomplish given the right legal forms, a hundred bucks and a little a patience – as long as you’re not trying to profit from someone else’s name (Cher) or avoid a jail sentence.

What’s in a name? I’d argue more than one might expect.

    Happy weekend, Frank.

I like my name. Then again, my parents chose between Colby and Brick. If they chose the latter, the only legitimate career choice is a 6’6″ 330 lb offensive lineman.

I’m about 5’10″, 165 lbs. So, I’ll opt for the cheese.

Thing is, I’m not sure I’d change my name. It’s not a common name, so when people around these parts ask, “you know Colby?”, people know who they’re talking about.

When I was younger, I always wanted my name to be Thor. Thor Gergen has a nice ring to it.

When I was in junior high school, kids liked to call me “Dick Tracy” after the comic strip character of the same name. In my early 20′s I became convinced that the right name for me was Madison Hanoi. Thank goodness I did not have the funds needed to facilitate a change of name. I now like being Tracy, however if I absolutely had to change my first name, I would go with Willowdale. My goal being to celebrate my low key, fresh build suburban childhood and restore a sort of suburban balance to baby names. Little souls such as “Paris” and “China” and “London” being the children of suburban kids who grew up wanting something bigger and better (or is that smaller and more crowded?) than their own piece of cul-de-sac heaven. Take two Willowdales and call me in the morning.
