Okay. So I had someone lined up for a lesson eleven this am. She has a great one to share about the music industry. But she also has a newborn baby and time slipped up on her. We’ll forgive her.
So I have a lesson I’d like to share. Actually I am going to ponder more about the bonus lesson on page 164 of the Brains on Fire book. It is one of my absolute favorites. Funny it almost didn’t make the book. Partly because we like even numbers (10 lessons seemed good to us) and partly because it was a new connection we have just begun to study.
Movements fight an injustice.
I’ve been thinking lately about the injustices of the world. Why are there so many?
Why do beautiful young women not see and appreciate their own unique beauty? (dove)
Why do precious books filled with knowledge end up in the landfill? (better world books)
Why do people get cancer and turn suddenly ill? (livestrong)
Why do you finally get your dream car and it turns out to be a lemon? (Okay. Okay. Don’t even get me started, that is a personal movement of mine – and trust me it’s not about a car.)
Why do leaders of a state like South Carolina not see the value in giving teens a voice? (rageagainstthehaze)
Why do children, beautiful children get sold into sex slavery? (love146)
Why do people make fun of others who are trying hard to express themselves? (fiskateeers)
Okay. You get it. I could go on and on. But the truth of the matter is this:
All of us want to make it right. We want to be part of a collective shout that says I am not going to let this happen.
If you hang out here often or spend any time with me you know I get up in the morning fighting the injustices of world. It’s how I am wired. I believe on some level it’s how we are all wired. We all want to save the day.
It’s what keeps us hopeful.
Someone recently told me that the biggest driver of apathy is disconnected-ness. So this need to fight together connects us on a deep emotional level, doesn’t it?
So what is your injustice?
Dig. Whether you are a company, a not for project, a social capitalist or just a dang twitter. You’ll find it. And when you find it, don’t let go. Cling to it with all you’ve got. Because that is your purpose and your guiding light. And without it at best you will only have a marketing program.
And I for one, know I’d rather be a part of a movement. Move forward today. I am.
