I’ve been knee-deep in community lately; to be honest, I’m always knee-deep in community. That’s one of the reasons I love working at BOF and love working for our clients.
Recently, I’ve found myself going back and forth to Dave Gray’s book The Connected Company. If you havenâ€™t read this book, itâ€™s a deep, super smart read and well worth the time. Chapter sixteen is about “How connected companies learn.” Here’s the intro snippet: “connected companies grow and learn over time. Like all life forms and complex systems, their growth is governed by natural rhythms and patterns. As individuals and teams learn, they must find ways to share their knowledge with the larger community. As communities learn, platforms must learn how to support them.” Great stuff, Mr. Gray.
Daveâ€™s words resonated to me about community building. Far too often our goal when it comes to building a brand community is to shareâ€¦mainly to share about ME.
My experience tells me otherwise, that communities need a focus on learning to inspire action, which then leads to sharing. Instead of writing a ramble, Iâ€™m sharing one of my doodles that I share with my co-workers even if they donâ€™t want to see it.
