Imagining Bigger.

My brother and his wife went to the Bahamas over New Years and they sent me this cool photo. It’s amazing what we humans can do with our imaginations.

It’s that time of year when we all seem to be making and talking about resolutions.

(Eat healthier, eat less, exercise more, get a new job, be kinder, spend more time with family, drink more wine, drink less wine… that sort of conversation is around every tweet, post and corner).

I don’t really like resolutions. They always make me feel kind of bad about myself. They’re by nature negative, trying to correct a perceive flaw. Last year I suggested that instead of resolutions, we all just simply raise our standards.

This year I want to toss out another idea.

What if we all agree to dream bigger, wilder dreams? What if we really tap into our powerful imaginations?

Take a moment this Monday morning and look around you. Everything you touch and see — the lamp on your desk, the mac book I am writing on, your car–everything once existed only in someone’s imagination.

Albert Einstein made this observation:

Logic will get you from A to B. Imagination will take you everywhere.

He was brilliant.

So. Where do you want to go? What can you make better? What can you see with your imagination? For yourself, your team, your family, your organization or the world?

What if we promised ourselves to NEVER make fun of anyone’s dreams or imagination? Our own included.

What if we never edited our imaginations?

What if we agreed to schedule more time to daydream?

What if we spent more time daydreaming and imagining than posting on Facebook or Instagram?

What would change?

And here’s the coolest thing about your imagination.

It belongs to you.

You can share it or keep it all to yourself. So don’t hold back. Your imagination is an amazing and powerful tool. You just have to give yourself permission to play.

So. Amazon delivering by drones in thirty minutes? Online matchmaking for customers and brands? No more obesity? A world without human trafficking? No more stigma associated with addiction? A world without hate or ignorance?

Let’s IMAGINE with wild abandon and fearless passion this year!

Let’s take “you can’t do that” out of our collective vocabulary.

Anything really is possible. All things are possible.

Welcome to this shiny New Year!

It’s 2014.

Hold on.

“Instead of resolutions, just raise your standards,” is awesome. Couldn’t agree more. I’ve been feeling this way about New Year’s for a while, thanks for expressing it ;)
