Someone told me this morning they were in the Miami airport and saw this on a tee shirt. Made me smile and lead me to this. Morgan Hotels (great hotels by the way) are sponsoring this website. I love, love this letter. Amazing! Poke around the site. It’s cool.
So what do you remember about recess when you in school? For me it was a time to reconnect with friends and share really important stuff, like who likes who.
My gut is telling me the brands who take advantage of this ‘recess’ to reconnect emotionally with their customers will be the ones who are the long term winners.
How are you making use of this economic weirdness? What are you learning and how can you use it to grow your relationships with your customers?
Are you digging deep and listening hard to your customers? Are you out there playing with and participating in their lives? Are you sharing knowledge and stories? Now, like during the recesses of our childhood, is time to get personal people! We say it all the time, but people buy from people. People they trust. Get out and make it clear who you are and what you stand for. Make it REAL and HONEST. Fly your flag high.
I believe all of our conversations have changed lately. Morgan Hotels certainly got that! What are your customers lives and conversations like NOW? How can you as an organization add value to your customer’s lives NOW?
P.S. And don’t forget to have fun with it. No one wants to play with Eeyore.

Greetings, Robbin!
Thank you very much for writing this post. It lifted my spirits and gave me a much needed laugh.
Your words inspired me to write my own letter to the recession. I hope it gives back to you some of the fun and inspiration that you gave to me.

I love this letter Robbin. It is not too much unlike you standing up at our family meetings and saying this recession is not my recession, but without the curse words. Great uplifting post. Hope people are listening….especially the WSJ. Would they please send me some alerts with some good news?
Brian, What a great letter. Yup Kathie, what if WSJ gave us all that option? Want the good news or the bad? Wonder what the majority of us we ask for????
