Scott, the name tag guy, gave me this great line awhile back. I use it often. “Writing is basis for the creation of all wealth.” Sorry, Scott I can’t remember who said that but I love it.
Love it!
Think about that sentence and let it sink in for just a moment. “Writing is basis for the creation of all wealth.”
There is an enormous amount of writing going on in our industry, so much so that it sometimes makes my head hurt.
But perhaps more important than writing, we have a mountain of learning going on. I am learning from everyone who takes even one minute to respond to my occasional morning musings, because I am LISTENING. This is my classroom.
Big enormous changes for all us marketers going on people. Yes, there have always been books. There have been articles, but now someone can read what I write and come right back to me in a matter of minutes. This is one gigantic classroom. Do you ever let that simple change really sink in?
I have this romantic theory that relationship of long ago that started with long well composed letters were simply more passionate, because of all that time spent writing together — then being together. Blogs are that equivalent in a strange sort of way. Stick with me here.
Who writes a post and doesn’t hope when they hit publish that someone is listening and will return with a comment or two or 42? Hopefully comments that show understanding. Or provoke thought. So yes. that has created some powerfully strong “consultants” out in our world. And some equally powerful practitioners.
Earlier this week, Spike ignited quite a conversation about this; Why You Don’t Need Social Media Consultants.
Do we need teachers, professors? Do we need entrepreneurs and doers? Yes. Yes. And Yes! And the more we all work together the better off we’ll all be. It is partnership of equals. And there is a place and role for all us.
Just my opinion.
What’s yours, my dearest lovely sweet reader? I will await your reply with baited breathe. (Okay, I wouldn’t be good at romance writing, have at it Elizabeth!)
To Robert Browning:
And now listen to me in turn. You have touched me more profoundly than I thought even you could have touched me - my heart was full when you came here today. Henceforward I am yours for everything….
- Elizabeth Barrett Browning

Hey, we love you BACK!
As someone who still spends much of my week in a classroom, I can definitely back this up. Sure, I’ve been able to learn some great things in class, but the breadth and depth of what I learn online is so much more. The community is much more diverse, there are much more effective ways to carry on the conversation (because online, class never ends), and everyone is a teacher AND a student.
It’s simply fantastic.

Hi. I am a fan of Brains on Fire and all that you represent - genuine enthusism is a rare + beautiful thing.
I think the explotion of writers within the community of the web is a comment on how “we all long to be known, seen, and understood”. As a branding consultant, I love tapping into the deepest reason - the real “why”- anyone would want the product that I’m branding. It so often comes down to the desire to be truly defined as an individual. Maybe it’s a “law of attraction” issue even when we write. From the comfort of our computers, we express ourselves hoping to attract a like-minded mate/friend/colleage.
It worked for the Brownings.
As a recent newby to the blog world, i recognized a need within my small rurban community, and went for it. . . .blogging about the goings on in our area with the simple . . .somewhat naive. . . hope of raising public awareness and waking people up! so. . . i hope that writing inspires thinking. . . .
and the wealth thing. . . . that could come too. . .especially monetarily speaking!

Absolutely. Yet another of the Brains on Fire blog posts I sit and nod my head to. . . AND for me writing has always been a way of knowing. If I can write about it, I can understand it. If I can write about it, I can share it. If I can write about it, it becomes part of me. Bravo!
