Left to right via my trusty iphone: Carl, Ron, Tommie (Ron’s super cool wife), Ramsey + Cordell

Okay I am checking out for a while. Until next Tuesday to be exact. Heading to San Miguel, Mexico with my some friends. And I have decided to do a little experiment.

I am going off the social media/communication grid.

No twittering, no blogging, no vlogging (altho’ with this group that might be interesting).

No texting, no emailing, no phoning, no tweet-ups, no twit pics, no foursquaring or DOPPLR radars following me from city to city (wait – I never do that). No Farmville (that’s for you @aaronvonfrank).

No nothing. Just some good offline friends, fun, sunshine, silliness and beers. I see lots of beers in my future.

But before I leave I thought I would do a quick little interview. One question that can only be answered with one sentence.

    Q. Uhmm…. So Cordell, Ramsey, Carl and Ron: Why do do you think we are so hungry to connect with our “friends” online? Just one sentence please, we are about to board the plane.

    A. Cordell — Our chief inspiration officer. And my all time favorite one liner email pen pal: You get a huge download of information in a very short time at your convenience.

    A. Ramsey — Our designer craftsman. And a man of few words. Love that about that man: To share our lives.

    A. Carl — That guy from Table 301. Carl’s a man who knows a thing or two about making connections: We crave the unknown.

    A. Ron — He’s a psychologist or “village wise man” as I call him. Love his elevator speech by the way: “I keep people from destroying businesses and businesses from destroying people.” Yes, he does : Because we are afraid to do it in person.

Okay, your turn. And remember only one sentence now people. And don’t be sad if I don’t reply.

Remember, I am off the social media grid in Mexico.

Until then…Love and butterfly kisses to you all, my sweet, sweet amigos… Yes, I’m already feeling that vacation mojo warm my soul.

P.S. @thebrandbuilder @chrisbrogan, @mackcollier have YOU ever gone off the grid? Just wondering…

  6. Great answer from Ron!

Ya’ll have a great time down there.

  7. Q: Why do do you think we are so hungry to connect with our “friends” online?
A: Because most I connect with online I actually consider friends.

  8. Because we’ve never has such easy access to a sense of belonging and attention.

  9. So in keeping with the me-centric vibe of social media I have to ask: Does this mean I won’t get to meet you in Dallas next week?!? ;)

I really really REALLY tried to make the weekends no-social media, but I can’t. I can stem the tide, but can’t quit cold turkey. Mainly because I don’t want to, most of my best friends are online, and via social tools are how we connect.

Then again maybe that’s the point, that we should be trying to move those connections to offline where they have more permanence and relevance?

Hmmm….will have to chew on that for a while, thanks Robbin!
