I love reading online. It’s become a habit of mine on Sunday nights as I write a post or two for the week ahead and get my mind and momentum rolling after a day or two of downtime.
I also love reading online because I stumble on things organically. Like this post from @JasonFalls on what is really driving traffic to your blog.
Checking ours now.
Or this blog topic from @mackcollier for #blogchat’s first live SXSW event:
What can company blogs learn from personal bloggers?
The power of a great question is amazing, isn’t it? That question made me think.
My last great stumble was this from Verne Harnish (love that guy). Verne lead me to the read the first chapter from Darren Hardy’s book, The Compound Effect, Multiplying Your Success. One Simple Step at Time. Dan’s first chapter is about Choices.
Did you know that if you decrease your food intake by 125 calories a day you will lose 33.5 pounds in 31 months. Wow. Such a simple notion.
Consistency is one of the keys to success in anything. @virginiamiracle said it long ago on this very blog, that “blogging is like a muscle”. You use it or lose it. I have held on that thought for many years. Because the moment I read that, I realized it wasn’t just a statement about blogging, but about success.
If you have want to be successful at anything, you have to be consistent.
You have to do take one or two simple steps and do them again, and again and again. Whether it is blogging, growing your business, growing a community or igniting a movement. You can’t do it in a day (or with a contest on facebook). You have to roll up your sleeves and do the little things that get you toward your goals. Those little things ultimately tip and drive you to a place where momentum kicks in.
And momentum is a very, very good thing.
What one little thing can you do consistently that will help you reach your goals?
Figure that out, then go do it.
Now as Jason Falls says (freaking love this from him)… the comments are yours. Go.

This photo makes me happy and it’s from, you guessed it, my friend Libby.
Happy Friday!
Sorry we’ve been a little light on the blog this week, it’s been a crazy busy good one.
Full of travel and work and lots of laughter.
So. I was in the airport Wednesday night and I picked up a very cool book:
Wellbeing, The Five Essential Elements by Tom Rath and JIm Harter.
According to Rath and Harter, the Five Elements of Wellbeing are:
1. Career
2. Social
3. Financial
4. Physical
5. Community
This book caught my eye because I really do believe the work many of us are doing now, creating communities, actually increases overall wellbeing. I’ll write more about that subject once I full digest the section on Community Wellbeing and the role that plays in our lives.
But for today, in place of our traditional Chat Pack Friday Question, I have a question of my own — inspired by the book.
So here goes, you ready?
What are you looking forward to at work today?
Think about it, if you experience Career Wellbeing, you wake up excited to tackle your day, you are looking forward to something. Your weekend and workdays are not that much different. For me personally, I often feel the lines are blurred between work and play.
I enjoy both equally.
Okay sure, I’d be flat out lying if I said I didn’t have some really hard days I dread or tasks I’d rather not do, but for the most part I get up every single day excited to head out and start my day.
Every Friday we have a team meeting at Brains on Fire and today I asked this simple question of everyone. We went around the room and shared. It was interesting to me that the routine of our days plays a large part in our happiness. Socializing and sharing makes the work better and creates a more engaged team. This book is full of proof about that. These guys are big believers, like me, that a best friend at work makes the work more remarkable. I think the best companies and teams are groups of best friends.Try asking this question with your team at work. It will make you smile and you’ll learn a lot.
So, back to today’s question:
In Chat Pack tradition, I’ll got first.
For starters, I get to jump on a new biz call in about 20 minutes and I love that. Love to connect with folks who are trying to determine if what we do is a good fit for their organization. I also love Fridays because it is the day we come together as team and discuss our work and our week. That time of connection is a fun time for me.
So.
What are you looking forward to at work today?
Come on. You know you have something. Even if it’s like Logan’s (our CFO). He’s just really excited to finally complete our taxes.
